Revealed: the Disney meaning behind Rachel Bilson's baby name

rexfeatures-733542i.jpg

When The O.C. star Rachel Bilson and Star Wars actor Hayden Christensen's daughter was born in October 2014, the pair made it clear they were going to keep their daughter's life private.

They withheld from releasing pictures or any details about their newborn other than the name they had given her - the Disney-inspired moniker Briar Rose.

Now Christensen has spoken about the meaning behind the nine-month-old's name and fatherhood for the first time.

In an interview with American talk show Home & Family to promote his latest film 90 Minutes in Heaven, the actor said, “There’s a Disney reference there I suppose. The original Sleeping Beauty was called Briar Rose. We both love all things Disney, but Rachel especially was very keen on the name.”

“Rachel is like a Disney princess,” co-star Kate Bosworth added.

In Disney's 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty, Princess Aurora's three fairy godmothers call her Briar Rose to disguise her from Maleficent. Little Briar Rose is also the name of the original fairy tale by the Grimm Brothers in 1812.

“We have Disney songs playing in our house 24-7 right now,” continued Christensen.

In another interview with E! News, the 34-year-old said: “I have this little angel in my life now and Rachel and I are so thrilled. We don't sleep as much as we used to, but it's all so worth it.”

Meanwhile, Bilson was spotted at the launch night of The Unauthorized O.C. Musical this weekend - a one-night only musical inspired by the hit teen TV drama set in California.

The 34-year-old was reunited with co-stars Kelly Rowan (who played Kirsten Cohen) and Melinda Clarke (Julie Cooper) and spoke about where her character Summer Roberts would be now if the show was still running: “We don’t want to disappoint the fans, so of course [Seth and Summer] are happily married with kids!”

Fans will be excited to know she was influenced by the series and her character. She said she still uses Robert's iconic line “Ew!” - “all the time,” she adds - and that her favourite musical moment from the show was being introduced to Imogen Heap's song Hide and Seek. “It was my first time hearing it, and it’s still so awesome,” she said.

If that's got you reminiscing about the insanely cool lives of the the Cohen, Cooper and Roberts families, then take a look at a few clips from last night's sold-out O.C. spin-off musical below.
