Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 2 is already breaking records

Wonder Woman broke all kinds of records with its release in May, inspiring young fans the world over.

Now, after what The Hollywood Reporter terms an “unusually lengthy and tough negotiation”, its director Patty Jenkins has signed on to direct the sequel – and is breaking records with her pay cheque, too.

After Variety first reported Jenkins had finally “closed a deal” on Wonder Woman 2, other reports claim she is allegedly bagging between $7 million and $9 million (£5.3m and £6.8m) in directing and writing fees.

While hardly unheard of for male directors to command multi-millions per picture (the Hollywood gender pay gap is still going strong), such a figure would catapult Jenkins to the accolade of highest-paid female director – and the pay day wouldn’t end there, with a ‘backend’ deal to take a cut of the resulting royalties.

The Warner Bros film has ruled the summer box office, has currently grossed around $813m (£613m) worldwide – the first female-led film to cross the $800m mark.

With the second film out in December 2019 (here’s everything we know about it), its star Gal Gadot has been busy promoting the release of the DVD, by giving a taster of the extras included – frankly adorable blooper reels.

Posting the two montages of clips on her Instagram account, Gadot revealed co-star Chris Pine’s on-set nickname for her was ‘Giggle Gadot’ – and with good reason.

Gadot has already signed on for the second Wonder Woman, and we’re still living in hope that a Lynda Carter cameo might also be on the cards… Roll on December 2019.
