Inside Elton John and David Furnish's star-studded wedding: all the photos from behind the scenes

Sir Elton John and David Furnish married this weekend in a spectacular star-studded ceremony. Although the well-established couple had undertaken a civil ceremony nine years ago, the historic legalisation of gay marriage this year meant they chose to convert their civil partnership into a marriage with a beautiful wedding.

A Damian Hirst-designed altar accompanied pristine white tables and chairs, with ornate bouquets of flowers all around. The couple's sons Zachary and Elijah acted as ring bearers for the ceremony. Elton described it as "the perfect day" in a photo caption on Instagram.

The celeb-heavy guest list included Victoria and David Beckham, as well as their children Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper. Liz Hurley, Ed Sheeran, Lulu, Hugh Grant, Gary Barlow, Jimmy Carr, David Walliams and Lara Stone were also there.

The guests - and the grooms - weren't shy about taking to Twitter and Instagram, with the hashtag #sharethelove used to collect photos and tweets to show the lavish ceremony and after party, including the menu and cutting of the cake.

Have a look at our gallery to see the best behind-the-scenes snaps from the big day.
