Jennifer Aniston has spoken out about her penchant for going makeup-free, her biggest beauty regret and the first time she met Justin Theroux.
The actress was speaking to People, said that filming drama Cake last year dramatically changed her outlook on beauty, makeup and how she was publicly perceived.
“When I was filming Cake, I didn’t wear any makeup,” she said. “I was taken aback by how nervous I got about walking outside and knowing that there was probably going to be a whole group of photographers.
“But then I just let go and I didn’t care,” she added. “And over the next five weeks of shooting that, I really loved it. I wasn’t attached [to makeup]. If anything, putting on makeup felt so weird.”
“I’m less attached to it now,” she added, mentioning that fiancé Justin also prefers the natural look on her. Though, she said, he is partial to dramatic makeup on her occasionally. “He likes it when I smoke up my eyes!” she said.
Jennifer also revealed that one of her biggest regrets is not using enough sunscreen as a child.
“I gave myself a sun-tanning intervention a few years ago, where I was basically saying, ‘Let’s just quit while we’re ahead,'” Jennifer said. “I was not great as a kid with sunscreen. That’s one of my big regrets.”
Yet she does not advocate staying out of the sun altogether, saying that a lack of vitamin D can be just as dangerous as burning in the sun.
“Honestly, this is going to sound so silly—going in the sun for 20 minutes a day is really important, vitamin D,” she said. “Because we are now having a vitamin D deficiency because of all the SPF.”
Jennifer, 46, also said that age should not have anything to do with our confidence as women.
“We’re going to feel good about ourselves if we see another woman who is 50 and rocking it,” she said. “If society is telling you to sit it out after 40, you diminish yourself. Believe what you feel. If you feel crappy about yourself, it’s going to show.”
The actress also opened up about her relationship with her fiancé Justin Theroux, 43, saying that he is the best thing to happen her “this decade”, and reminiscing about when they met for the first time, on the set of 2008 comedy Tropic Thunder in Hawaii.
"He was wearing black, black, black and I started to sweat just looking at him," Jennifer said. The couple got engaged four years later, in 2012, Justin presenting Jennifer with a ring rumoured to be eight carats.
"I just think it's so beautiful," she said of her engagement ring. "I love it because he picked it, put it into a setting and it's simple."
Justin, too, will wear a wedding ring when the couple get married. Jennifer said: "He's got a lot of hardware. He wears a chain. He has a gold chunky ring. When we get married he will be wearing his ring.
"It just won't say Justin anymore," she added, saying that the couple may also engrave the word Jen on the inside.
Though the couple haven’t set a date for the wedding yet, they seem pretty settled in their life, dividing their time between New York and Los Angeles - and even raising not one, not two, but seventeen chickens at their Bel Air home, whose eggs they regularly enjoy.
“I can't say it's a perfect life,” Jennifer told the magazine. “But it's my life. And it's perfect for me.”
Jennifer's next project is starring in Mean Girls spin-off Mean Moms, about a mother who moves to a high-class American suburb and has to deal with the world of competitive parenting. Now that's one movie we can't wait to see.
