Jennifer Lawrence to quit Hollywood for a year

Oscar-winning star Jennifer Lawrence is to take a year out from acting for a well-deserved rest, Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein said this weekend.

The producer - who worked with Lawrence on her Oscar-winning turn in Silver Linings Playbook last year - said she needed time out after making eight films in the past 12 months.

"She's going to have a long break for a year where she won't do anything," Weinstein told The Sun on Sunday. "It's been non-stop for her and she deserves a rest."

Lawrence, 23, began acting in TV aged 14 before finding fame with an Oscar nomination for 2010 thriller Winter's Bone. Film roles followed thick and fast but it was not until she was cast as Katniss Everdeen, the lead in box office smash hit The Hunger Games in 2012, that her career hit the stratosphere.

Two more Hunger Games sequels came next (Lawrence is still filming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2), plus a lead in Silver Linings Playbook and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Lawrence is currently doing the awards rounds for this year's critically acclaimed American Hustle, co-starring Amy Adams and Bradley Cooper. Her performance in the film has already won the actress a Bafta and Golden Globe award and she is up for a best supporting actress Oscar at next Sunday's Academy Awards.

In his interview with The Sun on Sunday, Weinstein defended Lawrence's decision not to attend this year's Baftas, despite winning the award for best supporting actress.

"Jennifer is too nice and will do people favours and agrees to do a movie like American Hustle when she could have had a rest," he said. "She signed on to do Hunger Games when she was young and wouldn't have realised how much it would dominate her life. But she's a professional and always will be."

In an interview with InStyle last year, Lawrence alluded to the fact that she was tired of the Hollywood rigmarole.

"After I wrap Hunger Games, I’m going to calm down for a while. A real life is starting to look pretty appealing," she said.

She's not the only Hollywood star to want time out from the limelight. Anne Hathway kept a deliberately low profile after winning an Oscar for performance in Les Miserables last year. "My impression is that people needed a break from me," she said at the time. And Beyonce took six months out from her taxing schedule in 2010.

"It will be the hardest thing in the world for me to make myself not do an album and shoot a video and turn it in and say, 'I'm ready!' I already have all these melodies and ideas in my head," the singer said. "I have to tell myself, 'Sit down! Sit down!' "

So good luck to Lawrence, we say. She's well overdue some time to put her feet up and feast on daytime TV.
