Jerry Hall: "I look pretty good for my age - but I smoke, I drink and I love sun tanning"

We're so used to celebrities harping on about the virtues of kale and lemon juice (we're looking at you Gwyn) or the importance of core exercises and Vitamix smoothies (Miranda Kerr), that it comes as a breath of fresh air when they shamelessly admit to bad habits instead.

All kudos to Jerry Hall, then, who has owned up to a string of vices in typical carefree style.

The 58-year-old model has always struck us as the kind of lady who embraces life to the max, an impression that has been enhanced this week with her latest comments to Good Housekeeping .

In her cover interview, the ex-wife of Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger said she looked great for her age (we can only agree), despite indulging in several less-than-healthy habits.

"I am 58. That is pretty old, for God’s sake. I look pretty good for my age, and I am enjoying that," Hall said. "But I smoke, I drink, I like wine, I love sun tanning, I drink coffee. I am doing all sorts of things I shouldn’t do."

In the interview to promote a fundraising campaign for Cancer Research UK, the mother-of-four insisted she had never used Botox - "I am very against it. I think it looks silly; people with mean-looking eyebrows" - and said she was unconcerned about the prospect of ageing.

"I think you feel less stressed at my age. You are not so bothered – everything is water off a duck’s back. It is something that happens with age; I am not bothered about anything. What will happen will happen."

Mick Jagger and his late girlfriend, the designer L'Wren Scott

Hall also talked about the tragedy of Jagger's fashion designer girlfriend L’Wren Scott, who was found dead aged 49 at the New York apartment she shared with him in March this year. The couple had been together 13 years and Scott was close to all of Jagger's children.

"It was a very traumatic time for the whole family," Hall recalled. "It is a horrible thing, suicide - you can never figure that out. We all got on really well. Peace was reigning. It was a shock for the whole family and Mick was just devastated."

The Texan-born model said she was unaware of the controversy surrounding pictures of Jagger embracing a dancer 11 weeks after his girlfriend's death (Scott's sister branded the images "grotesquely disrespectful").

"He (Jagger) is single now and can do what he likes," Hall said.

Hall was also close to the Geldof family and expressed her sorrow over the sudden death of Peaches from a drug overdose aged 25 in April.

"It was tragic," she said. "She was such a bright, lovely girl with two beautiful babies. We are all heartbroken – it is awful. People have these moments of madness don’t they?

"We used to have holidays together, so I’ve known Peaches and her sisters since they were little. Bob is a wonderful father. I don’t know if you ever recover from something like that, I don’t think so."

The full interview is in the September issue of Good Housekeeping, on sale this Thursday
