Julia Stiles’ low-key pregnancy announcement is easily the best thing on Twitter

Julia Stiles has confirmed that she is set to become a mother for the second time – but she’s not about to let the news distract anyone from the fact she’s taking centre-stage in one this year’s most hotly-anticipated TV shows.

The actor – who is currently on tour promoting Sky Atlantic’s Riviera – has been busy talking non-stop about the drama, which is said to be this year’s answer to The Night Manager. And Stiles has made it abundantly clear that her character, Georgina, isn’t going to be “guileless” and non-descript: in fact, she demanded certain changes be made to her character before she even thought about accepting the role.

“I wanted to guarantee that Georgina wasn’t going to be a guileless American the whole time, and they said to me that they wanted her to rise to the circumstances halfway through the series to show the backbone that she has,” she told The Sun.

“The producers and writers were very receptive to my input, which I appreciated.

“That doesn’t always happen on TV shows, but I would change lines on Riviera all the time. The director eventually just got used to it.”

Not once, during this interview, did she mention the fact that she is expecting her first child with her fiancé Preston J. Cook.

In fact, news of the 10 Things I Hate About You star’s pregnancy was only confirmed after a photo of her alongside Magic FM presenter Nick Snaith began circulating online.

You’ll note that, again, there’s no reference of the actor’s pregnancy in this tweet: only another shout out to her show Riviera.

However the photo was enough to send tabloids into overdrive – with many waxing lyrical about her ‘cute baby bump’, despite the fact that they had absolutely no confirmation that Stiles was even pregnant.

Stiles has since decided to confirm the news via a short ‘yes, so what?’ (we’re paraphrasing, naturally) from her representative.

After all, surely the fact that she’s made the jump from Hollywood to television is of far more interest to her fans?

We previously revealed that Riviera is one of our must-watch feminist TV shows of 2017 – and for good reason, too.

The 10-part series is all about Georgina (Stiles), a Midwesterner and former fine-art scholar turned resourceful wife of billionaire Constantine Clios.

After a year of marriage, her life is blown apart when Constantine is killed in an explosion aboard the yacht of a Russian oligarch and arms dealer – but, desperate to uncover the truth about his death, Georgina launches an investigation. The dark truths she uncovers send her spiralling into a criminal underworld of lies, double-dealings, and danger.

Will she be able to protect her family and its fortune?

Riviera airs on Thursday 15 June at 9pm Sky Atlantic; the entire series is available on Sky On Demand and Now TV from this same day.
