Katy Perry has a message for everyone talking about her and Orlando Bloom

Katy Perry has taken to social media to address her recent split from Orlando Bloom – and it’s safe to say she really isn’t impressed.

On Wednesday 1 March, it was confirmed that Bloom and the Chained to the Rhythm star, after a year of dating (their romance reportedly began in February 2016), had decided to call time on their relationship.

Perry and Bloom made a conscious effort to ensure that their amicable split was handled in as harmonious a manner as possible. And so, one day after attending the Vanity Fair Oscars Party together, they released a joint statement about their break-up.

“Before rumours or falsifications get out of hand we can confirm that Orlando and Katy are taking respectful, loving space at this time,” it read.

Despite sending an obvious message of good will and friendship, some tabloids have printed baseless accusations of infidelity – and even implied that Perry and Bloom were jealous over one another’s career success.

And Perry is having none of it.

Taking to Twitter yesterday evening, she decided to respond to the rumours directly with a pretty powerful message.

“How about a new way of thinking for 2017?” asked Perry. “You can still be friends and love your former partners!”

She added: “No one's a victim or a villain, get a life y'all.”

From Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman, to Kate Beckinsale and Michael Sheen, more and more famous couples are choosing to work through their irreconcilable differences in an amicable and emotionally mature way.

And, of course, the bar was originally set by Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, who famously announced their decision to “consciously uncouple” rather than their divorce.

Speaking to Marie Claire Australia, Paltrow said of their harmonious split: “I think we are better as friends than we are [married]. We are very close and supportive of one another.”

She added: “It hasn’t always been easy for us because you have good days and bad days as you do in life with anything, but I feel lucky because Chris has been willing to push himself for the sake of the kids and help me co-create this new family.

“It’s like we are still a family, but not a couple.”
