“We are more than just our bodies”: Kim Kardashian and Emily Ratajkowski hit back at haters in joint topless selfie

Kim Kardashian and Emily Ratajkowski have taken a stand against slut-shaming by posting a joint topless selfie on their respective Instagram accounts.

The snap is a reaction to the furore caused last month, when Kardashian, 35, broke the internet again with her naked body. This time, the reality TV star ruffled feathers by taking a nude selfie, with her private parts censored with black bars.

When you're like I have nothing to wear LOL

The internet got all in a tizz over it – cue abusive tweets and slut-shaming.

Many celebrities and women (Stylist.co.uk’s own editor included) came forward to defend Kardashian against the haters.

Celebrities began posting their own naked selfies including Gone Girl star, Emily Ratajkowski, 24, to whom Kardashian then sent flowers, to show her gratitude for the actor and model’s support.

Ratajkowski’s own naked selfie was not a mere solidarity move, but a stand against the internet’s reaction to a woman posing naked online. She posted an Instagram of Kardashian’s flowers, saying:

"Thank you for the beautiful flowers and note @kimkardashian it's so important that we let women express their sexuality and share their bodies however they choose. "Merely external emancipation has made of the modern woman an artificial being. Now, woman is confronted with the necessity of emancipating herself from emancipation, if she really desires to be free."

Accompanying the latest Instagram pic, in which the pair are posing topless in front of the mirror, with their middle fingers up, Kardashian decided to take a light-hearted approach to the latest selfie, in which she referenced the original caption where she had joked she had nothing to wear, saying: “When we’re like…we both have nothing to wear LOL @emrata.”

Ratajkowski, however, took a more political stance, saying:

“We are more than just our bodies, but that doesn't mean we have to be shamed for them or our sexuality.#liberated @kimkardashian.”

She also posted a series of tweets in which she expands her thoughts, arguing that women should be able to express their sexuality in whichever way they so decide:

The selfie comes just a month after Ratajkowski wrote an essay for Lena Dunham’s Lenny Letter, in which she describes how she embraced her sexuality on her own terms.

Kardashian also hit back at the response to her naked selfie, writing: “the body-shaming and slut-shaming – it’s like, enough is enough. I will not live my life dictated by the issues you have with my sexuality.”
