“It's kind of brilliant” Renée Zellweger reveals THREE different endings are being shot for new Bridget Jones film

We know it involves a baby, a christening ceremony and characteristic relationship confusion, but plot details for Bridget Jones's Baby have otherwise been pretty thin on the ground.

Now the franchise's star Renée Zellweger has revealed that those behind the third installment are so keen to keep the big reveal under wraps that even the cast are in the dark over the father of Bridget's child.

Three separate endings are said to be in the works in order to keep both the dad and Bridget's eventual decision on her love life as secret as possible, and the film's stars will find out along with the audience at the first red carpet screening.

“It’s kind of brilliant,” Zellweger told the Sunday Express newspaper. “None of the cast knows who fathered Bridget’s baby or who she’ll choose as her beau. The plan is to keep us all in the dark, right up to the premiere.”

Zellweger is reunited on screen with Colin Firth, who plays Mark Darcy, while Patrick Dempsey plays new love interest Jack Qwant. The second film, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, was released in 2004 and ended with Bridget happily with Mark.

So far, production company Working Title have only confirmed that the upcoming film is “based on [author] Helen Fielding’s 2006 columns and fills in the gap between the last film and her subsequent book Mad About the Boy.” The new script is said to have been written by Fielding and One Day author David Nicholls.

With three endings being shot, could there be a third potential dad-to-be in the wings? After all, singer Ed Sheeran confirmed a cameo by posting a picture of himself taking a picture of himself on the London set (meta).

Zellweger has previously explained how the film, expected to be released in April, will see 43-year-old Bridget “a bit more mature”.

“This is part of the new challenge, discovering where she is now in her new life,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “But as an actress, it feels like stepping back with an old friend.

“I love this character, I like that she tells stories about what it’s like to be a woman and these really relatable situations at certain times in life. It’s so right to tell a story about Bridget in this stage of her life.”
