Madonna hit back at critics last night, posting a selfie with the caption, "Laughing at all the haters out there who spend their energy trying to limit and label me with their prejudices and fears!"

The 55-year-old singer posed for the snap wearing fishnet tights, a jewelled headpiece and a huge smile alongside a caption which continued: "Take your evil tongue and eye and turn them into birds that fly! Don't waste precious time. Spend it on things you love! #rebelheart #artforfreedom".

The post has attracted almost 70,000 Instagram ♥s so far and praise from her fans.

The star has courted controversy throughout her career and regularly hits back at those who criticise her in interviews and in her music. And, with the rise of social media, Queen Madge has found another way to dismiss those who don't like her.

Earlier this month the star posted an image of herself with a hairy underarm on Instagram, with the message: "Long hair...... Don't Care!!!!!! #artforfreedom #rebelheart #revolutionoflove"

While the image gathered over 49,000 Instagram ♥s, some of her followers were not impressed by her new look while others questioned whether the featured hair was the singer's own.
