Leighton Meester and Adam Brody welcome their first baby and we love the name

Gossip Girl actress Leighton Meester and her husband, actor Adam Brody (of The O.C. fame) have welcomed their first child, a little girl.

Although she arrived on Tuesday 4 August, the news was only confirmed today by PEOPLE

The notoriously private couple tied the knot in secret last year, after meeting on the set of The Oranges in 2011. They also co-starred again in 2014 for comedy Life Partners.

While Brody is currently starring in TV show Billy and Billie, Meester has been focusing on her music, releasing her debut album, Heartstrings, in October last year.

They have two dogs together and Meeton has previously spoken of her desire to add to the family, “Most people I know are starting to get married. It’ll be kids next. I like the grown-up stuff. I like having a house. I’ve got dogs.”

Reps for the couple confirmed that the baby girl is called Arlo Day Brody.

Much like her Gossip Girl co-star Blake Lively, whose daughter is called James, the star picked a simple, traditionally masculine name.

Arlo may be a reference to folk singer Arlo Guthrie, or it may have been chosen for its meaning - from the Anglo-Saxon 'fortified hill'.
