Lindsay Lohan in court drama

Lindsay Lohan was handcuffed and taken into custody yesterday (19 October) following a row over her community service assignment.

Lohan, 25, was led away in tears after her probation was revoked by a Los Angeles judge, who criticised the star for failing to complete work at a local homeless centre.

The Mean Girls actress was later released after posting a $100,000 (£63,000) bail.

"We're dealing with someone on probation. Most people on probation don't always do things perfectly," her lawyer, Shawn Holley, said.

However, Lohan's troubles are far from over as the judge set a 2 November hearing to decide whether she should face jail time over the breach.

A city prosecutor earlier called for Lohan to be jailed after the court heard she had "blown off" appointments and "showed up once and left after an hour" after being ordered to serve 360 hours at Downtown Women's Centre in LA.

The star has spent time behind bars on four previous occasions, but has been released early each time due to overcrowding. Her legal troubles stem from a 2007 conviction for drink-driving and subsequent probation violations.

"Lindsay is hoping this matter will be resolved on November 2 and the court will reinstate probation and allow her to continue fulfilling her community service," Holley said.
