Madonna’s sartorial style may not be for the faint-hearted but the singer has revealed that her latest fashion inspiration is none other than Kate Middleton, Britain’s darling of the high street.

Speaking at the New York screening of her new film W.E., Madonna confessed her admiration for the Duchess of Cambridge, describing her as “a lovely girl with a great sense of style. She’s elegant and still knows how to have fun.”

She continued, “her wedding dress by Alexander McQueen was very beautiful. I like her choices.”

Clearly Madonna has royal costumes on the brain after directing W.E., a new biopic following the life and times of Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor, and starring Andrea Riseborough (of Never Let Me Go and Brighton Rock fame).

The singer’s love for all things royal and British stems from her first marriage to director Guy Ritchie, after couple settled down in a plush 1,000 acre estate in the county of Wiltshire. Fully embracing country life, Madonna quickly developed an English accent and a fondness for tweed – a far cry from her conical bra days when on the notorious Blonde Ambition tour.

The couple filed for divorce in 2008 and Madonna relocated back to New York shortly after.
