Madonna stalker detained

A stalker who broke into two of Madonna's homes was detained indefinitely in a secure psychiatric unit yesterday (24 October), after the star spoke of her "alarm and distress" over his actions.

Grzegorz Matlok, who suffers from schizophrenia, was convinced Madonna was in love with him and smashed a window to enter the bedroom of her London home in March and rifle through her wardrobe. Madonna was not at home at the time.

Nine months earlier he entered her Wiltshire home and tried on some of her ex-husband’s clothes before being restrained by Madonna herself.

Matlok, 30, said he was given permission to enter the properties but in a statement read out in Southwark crown court, Madonna insisted she did not know him.

"I do not know the defendant, I’ve not had any form of relationship with the defendant, nor have I had any form of contact by phone or by email or by any other way with the defendant," she said.

"I feel very alarmed and distressed. I’m worried about my children’s safety ... I’m also naturally worried about my own safety."

Sentencing Matlok, judge Deborah Taylor said, "It is the doctors’ view you pose a risk of serious harm."

The court ruling coincided with Madonna's appearance on the red carpet in London for the premiere of her latest movie, W.E., charting the life of Wallis Simpson.
