Meghan Markle had an unusual side job when she was trying to make it as an actor

Meghan Markle is an internationally acclaimed actor with a particularly envy-inducing Instagram feed, who has worked for both the United Nations and World Vision Canada.

But 2016’s most Googled actress wasn’t handed her success on a plate, and she has now revealed the interesting part-time job she took on to make ends meet while she was auditioning for the roles that would help her break into the industry.

Speaking to Good Housekeeping, Markle said, “I used to be a calligrapher for weddings and events – that was my side job while I was auditioning.”

Adding that she loves the concept of handwritten letters, the 35-year-old said, “I think handwritten notes are a lost art form.

“When I booked my first [TV] pilot, my dad wrote me a letter that I still have. The idea of someone taking the time to put pen to paper is really special.”

Markle has revealed how she made ends meet before fame called

The American actress, who stars in legal drama Suits and is currently dating Prince Harry, also opened up about her experiences of running her lifestyle website, The Tig.

Dedicated to a “love of travel, food, fashion & beauty”, Markle recently closed down the site after running it successfully for almost three years.

“I see my website The Tig as a conversation between girlfriends. I love connecting with the fan base and sharing my experiences,” she said.

“There’s so much snarky stuff on the Internet these days, so I’ve tried to create a space that’s really positive and hopefully inspires you to do something that’s uplifting and empowering.”

She shut down the website earlier this month with an online farewell letter thanking readers for their support, though didn’t specify why she would no longer be running it.
