Paris in the 1920s when joie de vivre ruled and the city was alight with famous writers, artists and musicians all clamouring to express their talents...
This world is brought to life in delightful fashion in Midnight In Paris, Woody Allen's Oscar-nominated rom com that explores naustalgia for a golden age lost.
Boasting a headline cast of major names including Owen Wilson, Marion Cotillard and Kathy Bates, the film revolves around an American writer (Wilson), who is struggling to find his identity on a holiday in Paris - until he stumbles upon a parallel universe set in the 1920s.
This magical world is populated by a string of fabulous and bohemian characters such as Gertrude Stein, Pablo Picasso, Zelda Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway.
Above all, it is the film's beautiful cinematography and costumes that really colour the movie, conjuring up the sense of an era when bonhomie and creativity reigned freely in an endless stream of late-night parties and wine bars.
"I have a tendency to romanticize Paris," Woody Allen admitted, in interviews about the film. "When the lights come up and it's almost midnight, everything looks so pretty."
Certainly, the film iconizes everything that is loved about the City of Light with a series of intricately crafted scenes.
