So apparently there WON’T be a Spice Girls reunion this summer after all

Victoria Beckham’s fashion empire is going from strength to strength. Emma Bunton is in the new Ab Fab movie. Geri Horner (née Halliwell) is promoting Barbie. Mel C is running triathlons. And Mel B?

Well, Melanie Brown, aka Mel B, is viciously toying with our emotions, fuelling will-they-won’t-they speculation about a Spice Girls reunion.

Apparently, they won’t. After telling us in January that the band “would be doing something” this summer to celebrate the 20th anniversary of debut single Wannabe, and posting teasing photos of (some of) the band in the studio in May, one of Leeds’ most famous daughters has now dashed our hopes and dreams.

Appearing on US chat show Live with Kelly, Brown said: “It is our 20th anniversary this year and this would be the perfect year, but places get booked out so what we’ll hopefully do is plan to do something to celebrate next year.”

“Places get booked out”? You’d think that after two decades in the game, the Spice Girls would know that you can’t just reserve Wembley Stadium like a table in Pizza Express, but there you go. We'll just have to celebrate 20 years of Girl Power by watching Wannabe on repeat, instead.
