'I no longer worry about how I look naked,' Taylor Schilling talks nudity, race, class and sexuality in OITNB

Taylor Schilling has insisted she can do more than just sex behind bars following her success in the hit prison drama Orange Is The New Black.

The 30-year-old, who plays jailed bisexual Piper Chapman on the Netflix show, is starring in raunchy sex comedy The Overnight and says the risque roles means she is no longer burdened by how she looks naked. "It’s totally liberating,’ the American actress said of her X-rated sex scenes.

"There’s freedom in not having to make it about how my jeans fit or what my boobs look like in a top. All I have to do now is play," she told Metro.

"I don't know how the racy stuff keeps happening. But it's not necessarily planned that way it just kind of happened."

Taylor's new Sundance Film Festival comedy, which stars Parks and Recreation star Adam Scott as Taylor's husband, already has rave reviews and seems set to be another huge hit for the star.

The Boston native admits that she did not see the success of Orange coming: "I think one of the extraordinary things about the show is it has shown that all audiences are interested in these women's stories and that gender, race and class don't make any difference. A story is a story and can cut through all the divides," she says.

Asked if she was worried about lesbian themes alienating straitlaced US viewers Taylor, who graced the cover of Rolling Stone with co-star Laura Prepon earlier this month says: "I think those days are over. And what I love about the show is it's not just about sexuality. It deals with sexuality as one aspect of a full human being. No one is defined by any one thing on the show.

"All the women are much more than their sexuality, their gender, their crime, their socio-economic status, their job, their family. It transcends all that stuff."

Taylor also admits that the action on screen isn't total make-believe, saying ex convicts have told her there are parallels from their experience inside.

"The prison system in America is a huge problem. My eyes have really been opened to it through being involved in this show," the actress says.

"The line between the guards and the prisoners is incredibly unregulated and a lot of people are suffering a great deal because of that. It's time to find different solutions."

The new girl on the block Ruby Rose is the latest addition to the Netflix blockbuster and has already caused an internet sensation.

Rose appears in the latest series as Lichfield Penitentiary’s new inmate, Stella Carlin – an Aussie Buddhist who soon captures the attention of we-won’t-say-who-because-we-don’t-want-to-ruin-it.

She has already amassed a legion of adoring fans; and the series only dropped a couple of weeks ago. We are firmly among them.
