Rihanna has been taken to hospital during a tour in Sweden after suffering from a bad case of flu.

The singer tweeted a photo of herself attached to an intravenous drip after being hospitalised last night (31 October). She had earlier cancelled a concert date in the Swedish city of Malmo.

"Sorry, Malmo!" she wrote, next to the picture of her arm hooked up to the IV device (below).

An official statement from the star read, "I am sorry to everyone who was coming out to my show in Malmo. I was so excited to perform for you all.

"It would have been a great time. So much better than being sick with the flu, ugh! I'm really disappointed I couldn't be there."

Rihanna, 23, began her Loud world tour in June and is currently touring Scandinavia (above, second photo). She is due to perform in Stockholm tomorrow night, in a schedule that includes 99 gigs in total.

Concert organisers in Malmo said they would refund all the tickets.
