Roll out the red carpet: Queen Bey is in town

Beyoncé lands in the UK this week for The Mrs Carter Show World Tour, which sold out in just 12 minutes. Luisa Omielan, who trained at the same comedy school as Tina Fey, is currently starring in What Would Beyoncé Do?! — a sellout one-woman show on tour across the UK (see iloveluisa.com for more information). Here she explains why she and the whole planet are obsessed…

The inspiration

“I often ask myself, ‘What would Beyoncé do?’ A huge entrepreneur and workaholic, she’s like a sexy Alan Sugar. I even have a print that says, ‘You have the same amount of hours in a day as Beyoncé’.”

The persona

“Madonna and Gaga have their haters, but we all love Beyoncé, because you know where you stand. At the gigs it’s fearless Sasha Fierce; but off-stage it’s ‘I’m just a sweet gurrl from Texas’. She’s smart: while Crazy In Love with Jay-Z [together they’re music’s first billionaire couple], she knows no-one will buy a song that says: ‘If you like it… don’t put a ring on it, cos I’m happily married and mega-rich’.”

The look

“Her signature moves are the cool equivalent of the Macarena. And so what if we questioned her Mama Knowles-styled Destiny’s Child days? Emilio Pucci, Givenchy and Ralph & Russo all queued up to design custom outfits for The Mrs Carter Show. All rise for Queen Bey.”
