Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Jason Statham are engaged

The red carpet was a little more exciting than usual at last night's Golden Globe awards in LA, as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Jason Statham sparked engagement rumours with a piece of bling.

Supermodel Huntington-Whiteley wore a large diamond on her ring finger alongside her custom-made beaded dress by Atelier Versace, and her publicist has now confirmed that the couple are engaged.

The model, 28, and 48-year-old Statham have been dating for more than five years, and last summer the actor gave a glimpse into life with the Transformers star in their Hollywood home, telling Esquire magazine: “We get drunk and float around the swimming pool.”

While they've largely kept their relationship as private as is possible for a Hollywood actor and a successful model, Huntington-Whiteley did open up in an interview last April, in which she said having children was probably a more likely prospect than marriage.

“For any couple that’s been together for a certain amount of time, there’s a massive amount of pressure to get married,” she told Self magazine. “I totally believe in marriage, but being in a happy relationship is much more important to me. [Children are] something that’s more realistic in the near future.”

She added: “We're best mates. He makes me laugh every day. I almost feel like I never had a proper boyfriend before!”

The couple have so far made no comment on the engagement but confirmed the news to the Mail Online via their representative. They have just returned from a luxury holiday in Thailand (see below).

Speaking of life in the public eye, Huntington-Whiteley has said, “One thing about J and I, we just get on with our relationship.

“The other day, someone said to me, ‘I really respect how private you guys are.’ I said, ‘Really? That’s interesting.’ It’s more work to put your relationship out there than it is to keep it behind closed doors. But my relationship is not a branch of my brand. It's my private life. Certainly, that’s how he feels, too.”

While there's no news on when the wedding might take place, perhaps Huntington-Whiteley will be making wedding dress notes from some of the best gowns of the 2016 Golden Globes...
