We won't see Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes together on the red carpet any time soon

They might be one of Hollywood’s top power couples but Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes don’t exactly hit the celebrity party circuit the way many celebrities do, and are rarely spotted on the red carpet together.

Not that their reluctance to be seen out has stopped public declarations of love, of course – this awards season, Gosling gave a heartfelt speech about his wife on accepting his Best Actor Golden Globe. Here’s a quick recap of that brilliant moment:

Now, in a new interview, Mendes has revealed just why she’s not walking glitzy carpets and it’s pretty simple: she’s a homebody.

"What people don't know about me is that I love being home," she says. "Instead of hitting the red carpet, I'd rather be with our girls," she told Shape magazine.

Fair enough.

The pair have been together since 2011, when they starred opposite one another in The Place Beyond The Pines, and have two daughters, Esmeralda and Amada.

Last month, the pair swerved another red carpet as Gosling took his sister along as his date to the Oscars, only to see one of the biggest mix-ups in the award show’s history when his film, La La Land, was mistakenly announced as the winner of Best Picture instead of the real winner, Moonlight.

And this week, organisers of the Goldene Kamera screen awards, the German equivalent of the BAFTAs, were also left red-faced – following a prank involving Gosling.

German comedy duo Joko and Klaas posed as a fake PR agency and promised that the American star would attend the awards if he was named as a winner for his role in La La Land. Apparently the organisers took 90 seconds to call them back, accepting a long list of demands – such as Gosling not being spoken to, not doing interviews and being surrounded by security at all time.

When Gosling’s name was read out, Munich cook Ludwig Lehner – who has a passing resemblance to the star at best – walked up onto the podium instead.

“I dedicate this award to Joko and Klaas,” he said in a heavy German accent, in front of an audience including Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell. Watch the bizarre moment below:

We’re not sure Lehner has a future in Ryan Gosling impersonation, but you never know.
