Sarah Jessica Parker channels Carrie Bradshaw to mock President Donald Trump

Sarah Jessica Parker rarely speaks about politics – shortly before the US election, in fact, she admitted that she was “terrified to say anything bad about Donald Trump”.

“I’m afraid there is now a climate that has said in silence that it is okay to hurt anybody you not-so-secretly disagree with,” she said at the time.

However, the Sex and the City actor decided to make an exception when it came to the president’s latest scandal.

Taking to Instagram, she shared a photograph of her SATC persona, Carrie Bradshaw, tapping away at her laptop. And, as we so often saw in the hit HBO show, the journalist is thoughtfully gazing downwards, as she ponders one of those all-important “I couldn’t help but wonder…” questions.

“I couldn’t help but wonder…” the image is captioned, “had the Russian ambassador been meeting with everybody except me?”

“I had to,” wrote Parker. “Don’t know the provenance, however; whoever you are, thank you.”

The meme was a clear reference to the controversy surrounding US attorney general Jeff Sessions and his alleged meetings with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

Appearing on Fox News, the attorney general said he only met Kislyak twice before the election – and insisted that they did not discuss the presidential campaign.

He said it did not occur to mention his meetings with the Russian diplomat during his confirmation hearings.

Trump has since come out to defend Sessions, tweeting: “Jeff Sessions is an honest man. He did not say anything wrong. He could have stated his response more accurately, but it was clearly not intentional.”

He continued: “This whole narrative is a way of saving face for Democrats losing an election that everyone thought they were supposed to win. The Democrats are overplaying their hand.

“The real story is all of the illegal leaks of classified and other information. It is a total witch hunt!”

Sessions is not the only member of Trump’s cabinet to be accused of meeting with the Russian ambassador. Former national security adviser Michael Flynn was fired in February, after he misled the White House about his conversations with Kislyak.

It has since been confirmed that Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser was with Flynn when they met met with Kislyak in December – just weeks after the 8 November election.
