School uniforms, red catsuits and the drama of 2007: standby for the Britney Spears biopic

britney 1.jpg

She’s just been confirmed for London’s Apple Music Festival, has taken up residency in Las Vegas with her show Britney Spears: Piece Of Me and recently jumped in the front seat for Carpool Karaoke with James Corden.

But the biggest piece of Britney news this week has to be confirmation of a new film biopic, tracking her (at times rocky) route from small town girl to global megastar.

Yes, we’re getting a film about Britney’s life thus far. She may only be 34, but heck, she’s packed a lot in.

After growing up in Louisiana, she became a part of Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club alongside Christina Aguilera, shot to fame in 1999 with Baby One More Time (she was just 16), then dropped non-stop hits through the early 00s.

We saw her date Justin Timberlake and make his 'n' her’s patchwork denim a thing, she got married twice (to childhood friend Jason Alexander for all of 55 hours, then dancer Kevin Federline), had two children (are you still with us? We’re only about half-way through), then hit a rough patch in 2007.

Cue the image of her swinging an umbrella having just shaved her own head, that we'll never, ever forget.

Flashback to present day, and she's now made the most epic of comebacks to reclaim her throne as Princess of Pop.

That’s the short version, of course, but thanks to American network Lifetime we’re now set to get a two-hour retelling of the life of Britney, with actress Natasha Bassett, who recently made a name for herself in Hail! Caesar, taking up lead.

With the script already written by Leslie Libman and Anne-Marie Hess primed to direct, the cast and crew are reportedly ready to start filming Britney Jean next month, with a view to air the biopic in 2017.

But there’s just one snag; Britney’s not on board. Nor, it seems, is she too chuffed to be the subject of Lifetime’s latest project.

After reaching out to a rep for comment, Entertainment Weekly were told that Britney will be not be contributing to the film “in any way, shape or form… nor does it have her blessing.”

Oh dear.

The film announcement comes days ahead of Britney’s new record release, Glory, which incredibly will be her ninth studio album.

The star is also set to perform at the MTV VMAs this weekend, with fans hoping for quite a show.

If that’s not enough Britney for you (is it ever?), her Carpool Karaoke is set to air tonight too, on James Corden’s Late, Late Show.
