Setting up your own business? Reese Witherspoon has some advice

Cruel Intentions, Legally Blonde, Sweet Home Alabama, Walk The Line; Reese Witherspoon has won Oscars, Golden Globes, BAFTA awards, and after 25 years in the film industry, she's cemented her position as one of Hollywood’s most famous stars.

But turning her hand to entrepreneurship, she says, was the challenge (and rollercoaster) she’d been waiting for.

Witherspoon set up her own clothing and lifestyle brand Draper James last year, embracing her Southern roots as inspiration for prints, slogans and more.

Now enjoying respectable sales of her wares, Witherspoon has decided to reveal her most valuable lesson about making it in the business world.

Talking to Instyle, Witherspoon discusses the importance of valuing her employees, telling the magazine: “I’ve learned, particularly when you’re in a business for a long time, you need to treat people the way you want to be treated.

“Because at the end of the day, you’re going to be up, you’re going to be down, but it’s really about how you behaved. That’s important to me.”

The star also noted that she doesn’t take a Devil Wears Prada approach to being the boss, and rarely loses her cool.

“I lose my temper only about once a year, but when I do, they usually deserve it,” she admits.

Naturally, the work-life balance question came up, to which Witherspoon responded with the hope that her own work ethic inspires that of her children.

“I’m just trying to hold on, trying to make it through,” she said. “My older kids help with the little one. It’s nice to have a big family… My mom worked, and I think it’s good for kids to see women working and being successful.

“I think it’s going to make them hard workers because they see that I don’t get much sleep. But I love what I do.

“I want them to grow up with passion. This is the one life you get, and you have to live it to the very end.”
