Emma Bunton and Mel C reveal conflicting emotions about Spice Girls reunion

It’s no secret that the world is baying for a Spice Girls reunion – which is why we were all very pleased when it was confirmed that Mel B, Geri Halliwell, and Emma Bunton are busy planning a special get-together for the 21st anniversary of Wannabe next year.

However, it has since been revealed that neither Victoria Beckham nor Mel C will be joining them on stage. As such, the trio are being forced to style themselves as GEM (an acronym formed from the initials of their first names) – and will be searching for two new bandmates in a series of X Factor-esque televised auditions.

It’s understandable, then, that Baby Spice is feeling a little strange about everything.

Admitting that the girls “are yet to start planning their comeback”, Bunton confessed that she finds it difficult to perform without her estranged bandmates.

Speaking to the Express, she explained: “It's weird because we've done it without Geri before…of course, it always feels weird [without the others].”

However, looking on the bright side, Bunton added: “I believe that the Spice Girls now is about a generation, it's not just about us, it's about all the people that have listened.

“Holly Willoughby, bless her, is a big fan of the Spice Girls and her little girl just came over and said 'I want your autograph'. There's a whole new generation that's coming through, so I think it's nice for them to hear the music as well.”

While Bunton is busy missing her fallen comrades, it seems the feeling is definitely not mutual – at least as far as Mel C is concerned. In fact, the artist formerly known as Sporty Spice has said that she’s very glad she’s not going to be part of the group’s reunion plans.

“Once [the decision] was made, I felt very relieved,” she told the Sunday Post. “And that proved to me that my instinct was right.”

Despite this, the 42-year-old went on to insist that there is no rift between her and the GEM bandmates, explaining: “There’s always an ebb and flow to how much we stay in touch. We have spells of seeing each other and then not speaking for months.

“Family life and career takes over [but] I’d love to see the girls more. When we do have periods of being in each other’s lives, it’s lovely.”

Meanwhile Mel B, who previously led the charge for the reunion, recently said that she’s sick of talking about it.

“I wish there was something to say,” she told Australia’s Daily Telegaraph, when quizzed about GEM’s plans for 2017. “I'm fed up with talking about it because until it is absolutely set in stone and everybody gets their arse in gear, there is nothing to say.”

However, for all those worried that GEM might soon become GE, don’t be; Scary Spice is still very much on board with it all.

“If the girls said to me in January, 'We've booked five shows in the U.K.', I'd drop everything and be there,” she said.
