The Spice Girls are looking for two new members for their reunion tour

Spice Girls fans, do you wannabe in the biggest girl band of all time?

Well, you’re in luck; Mel B, Emma Bunton, and Geri Horner – formerly known as Geri Halliwell – need two new bandmates to join them for their big reunion in 2017.

The trio, styling themselves as GEM (an acronym formed from the initials of their first names), recently confirmed that they are planning a concert and new material to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Spice Girls’ debut single Wannabe.

Victoria Beckham and Mel C – formerly known as Posh and Sporty respectively – will not be taking part in the girl power revivial.

Speaking to James Corden on The Late Late Show over the weekend, Mel B let slip that she and her fellow GEMbers had been forced to form their own band of three “because the other bitches didn’t want to do it”.

She added: “No, let me correct that — my other two fellow lovely ladies. You know, Victoria is busy with her great fashion line. Mel C is doing her own album.

“They gracefully said, ‘you three go ahead and do it’. We are girl power and we support each other so us three went, OK, well then let’s us three do it."

Clearly inspired by the likes of Atomic Kitten and the Sugababes, Mel B went on to hint that she is very open to swapping two new members in for Posh and Sporty.

“I don’t think we could ever replace [them],” she said, “but I’d like to invite other people to sing with us.”

And now it has been revealed that Scary, Ginger and Baby Spice have asked the BBC for help in doing exactly that.

The trio reportedly approached the bigwigs at the television network with their own idea for a talent show.

The new programme, which has been likened to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, will essentially see ‘wannabe’ Spice Girls (pun intended) come up and sing in front of Emma, Geri and Mel B in an X Factor-style audition.

They will then judge them accordingly – and, presumably with help from TV audiences at home, narrow down the hopefuls to just two lucky ladies.

The new Spice Girls will join the remaining three Spice Girls on stage at their special anniversary concert in Hyde Park next July.

And, yes, anyone can audition.

The auditions and heats will take place over five weeks next April, followed by a week of live shows.

The winners will be announced during a live finale on BBC1.
