Hollywood star Hayden Panettiere got a bit more than she bargained for when she agreed to present at the MTV European Music Awards in Belfast last night (6 November).

The Heroes actress had to suppress her giggles as she was interrupted by a naked man mid-way through presenting a best song gong to Lady Gaga.

"Dude, what are you doing?" she asked as the intruder as he leapt on-stage.

Speaking in a Northern Ireland accent, the man told Hayden he was a big fan, to which she replied, "Thank you ... you should come grab a pint with us after."

"I would love that. I don't have my phone on me though. You know what. I'll just leave you to it and I'll see you at the after show," he said, before jumping up and down and shouting, "she was a cheerleader!"

He then ran off, leaving a startled audience in his wake.

The incident prompted a flurry of comments on Twitter, with many speculating that the whole thing was a publicity stunt.

"Naked Guy was obviously staged. How would someone not catch him before he got on stage?" one user wrote, as another added, "What do you reckon - was the MTV EMA streaker all set up?"

Reports today suggest the scenario was indeed pre-planned, with Irish actor David Monaghan named as the man behind the nudity.
