Susan Sarandon reveals the most romantic London spot for your first date

First dates can be an awkward affair, as anyone who’s ever been on one will tell you.

With this in mind, it can be helpful to plan a date that provides an icebreaker to kill off any small talk before it begins, such as a trip to the cinema or an unusual bar.

Or, you could take a leaf out of Susan Sarandon’s book, and simply head to your local graveyard.

Revealing the location of her ideal first date to the Evening Standard, the actor named the pet cemetery in Hyde Park (which, to be fair, would be an excellent conversation starter).

And when asked to explain why she would pick this unusual location for a first date, she naturally had the perfect answer: “It's something you probably haven't done before and would give you lots of time to talk.”

The pet cemetery certainly seems like a fitting choice for the 70-year-old actor, who has two pet Pomeranians of her own, adorably called Penny and Rigby.

And death itself was a running theme throughout the interview, with Sarandon also revealing that she is currently in the process of giving away all her possessions “while [she is] still alive”.

The actor, who has starred in films including Thelma and Louise and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has been busy bequeathing photographs and art to her three children, Eva Amurri, Miles Robbins and Jack Henry Robbins.

“Right now I’m in the process of giving everything away, so I did have a lot of fairly well-known photographs — and some art — but I’m passing everything on to my children while I’m still alive,” she said.

“I have some magnificent photographs from Sebastião Salgado that I’m giving to them — and some Picasso etchings. You know, some names.”

Continuing in this vein, Sarandon also shared the best piece of advice she’d ever been given – and, you guessed it, it was about death.

Saying that she was given the advice by Mary-Louise Parker while she was “in the middle of a crisis”, Sarandon shared the following quote: “When you’re on your deathbed, none of these other things will matter.”

Which, we have to say, are wise words indeed.
