Susan Sarandon addresses those Liam Neeson romance rumours

Earlier this year, Love Actually’s Liam Neeson confirmed that he was in a relationship with someone new. However, he refused to identify her by name – and later hinted that his reason for this was due to the fact that she was “incredibly famous”.

Tabloids everywhere quickly jumped to the same conclusion: the 64-year-old was talking about Susan Sarandon.

The Feud star has seen her personal life pored over by the press countless times before. Yet, when it came to her rumoured relationship with Neeson, Sarandon wasn’t too bothered by the reports.

In fact, she was actually a huge fan of them.

“I loved that,” she told the Irish Sun. “It was a week of heaven.”

Sarandon continued: “I first read the headline, ‘Liam is romancing Susan’, and I thought firstly, ‘that's news to me!’ And then, ‘I'm not going to tell the truth. I'm more than happy for everyone to think that.

“Who wouldn't want to be in a romance with Liam? Oh my God, the man is perfect! He's handsome, he's charming, he’s Liam Neeson… who doesn't dream of that?”

Sarandon added: “I hoped it would run and run. I should probably have stoked the fires, threw out some cryptic tweet.

“Of all the rumours, of all the stuff written about me, that was possibly the best. So why couldn't it be true? Really, I mean come on universe, make this one happen!”

Unfortunately for the Thelma And Louise actor, Neeson later admitted to the press that he had been “joking” about his new partner being famous.

“The humorous tone of that statement did not translate in the printed version of that interview,” his spokesperson confirmed.

Sarandon, naturally, was disappointed.

“And then the truth came out,” she said. “Oh well! Had to face reality again. But for those few days, it was pretty special.”

It’s not the first time that Sarandon has spoken candidly about her sex life.

Speaking to pridesource.com, the actor revealed that, as a result of her long-term relationships (including ex-husbands Chris Sarandon, who she married at age 20, and Tim Robbins), she hadn’t really explored her sexuality.

“Well, I'm a serial monogamist, so I haven't really had a large dating career,” she told them.

“I married Chris Sarandon when I was 20, and that went on for quite a while – each of my relationships have. I haven't exactly been in the midst of a lot of offers of any kind. I'm still not! I don't know what's going on! But I think back in the sixties it just was much more open.”

Asked whether that meant she was “open” regarding her sexuality, Sarandon, 70, agrees: “I'm open. My sexual orientation is up for grabs, I guess you could say.”
