“People along the way will try to undercut your success” Taylor Swift's empowering Grammys speech hit back at Kanye West

Taylor Swift, 26, delivered an empowering acceptance speech at the Grammys last night.

Stepping up to receive the coveted Album of the Year award for the second time, Swift told the crowd:

"As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there: There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame, but if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you are going, you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there and that will be the greatest feeling in the world."

Kanye West claimed in a recent song lyric that he made Taylor Swift famous

Swift's comments come less than a week after the release of Kanye West's controversial new album, The Life of Pablo.

West's album was met with outrage when listeners heard the song Famous, that includes the line:

"I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/Why? I made [her] famous."

The lyric, which refers to the infamous 2009 incident at the MTV VMAs when West jumped up on stage as Swift was accepting the award for Best Female Video and told the crowd:

"Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’m [going to] let you finish — but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time."

West, 38, claims that the Famous lyric had the blessing of the singer but her empowering speech last night suggests otherwise.

Without the need to even mention West's name, Taylor's speech said it all.

It was certainly Taylor’s night; as well as Best Album for 1989, she took home trophies for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Video for Bad Blood
