The new Sarah Palin

She's one of the most colourful figures in recent political history, so when Julianne Moore took on the role of Sarah Palin, she must have been aware of the scale of the challenge ahead...

However, the first glimpse of upcoming movie Game Change, based around the events of the 2008 Republican presidential race, suggests she rose to the task in style.

The Oscar-nominated actress lays on an uncanny impression of John McCain's running mate in the HBO film, with a performance to rival even Tina Fey's world-famous impression of the former Alaska governor.

The film, released next month and based on a book of the same name, offers an unprecedented look into the chaos and uncertainty that surrounded Sarah's appointment as John McCain's sidekick in the run-up to the elections.

It sees the mother-of-four struggling with the attention and demands of her unexpected promotion, at one point telling McCain's team, "You tell me what to say, what to wear, how to talk - I am not your puppet."

The disastrous fall-out of her appointment and McCain's eventual defeat are also detailed, with Ed Harris playing John McCain and Woody Harrelson in the role of his advisor.

Sarah herself, who recently confirmed she would not be running for the 2012 presidential elections but continues to champion the controversial Tea Party Movement, is not a fan of the film.

"I think I'll just grit my teeth and bear whatever comes what may with that movie," she told FOX News.
