"This hurts like hell!" - woman tweets every stage of 12-hour labour

A pregnant woman has live-tweeted every stage of the 12-hour birth of her daughter on Twitter.

Lyndsey Thomas, 34, gave birth to a baby girl named Ferne three weeks' ago, but during the birth decided to keep herself occupied by informing her followers on the progress her labour.

She posted up on the social networking site as the momentous event took place - contraction by contraction - so as to keep family and friends updated on her condition.

Using the hashtag #lyndseygivesbirth, the marketing executive from London posted regular updates, from her arrival in the ward to the moment she started breastfeeding her brand new daughter.

She also posted up pictures of her midwife and the trainee who were helping to deliver her baby girl.

Later on Lyndsey posted up a comical picture of her posing in her bed socks and nighty.

As her labour progressed, she took a selfie of her and her doctor after she'd had her epidural administered.

While Lyndsey didn't post up some of the more graphic images of the birth, she did share one final moment - a photo of her and her new born.

Following the birth, Lyndsey praised the staff at the hospital and said they were "flawless from beginning to end" and "every single person that dealt with me was fantastic" .

A spokesperson for the Whittington Hospital, Islington, where Lyndsey gave birth said they'd been keeping an eye on her tweets and that they wished her well.

This isn't the first time a woman has decided to share this intimate moment with Twitter.

In April, a Twitter employee, Claire Díaz-Ortiz (@claire), posted up the birth of her child on the social networking site, and included a tweet about how she wasn't sure if she was in labour and a picture of her wearing her Twitter jumper.
