Uggie at the Oscars

He may have missed out on an award himself, but Uggie, star of Oscar-winning film The Artist was best in show on the red carpet this year.

Soon to hang up his collar and retire from the film industry, the pampered pooch was kitted out by luxury jewellers Chopard at the Academy Awards.

Fresh from accepting a Golden Collar Award for best dog in a theatrical film, Uggie arrived at The Weinstein Company’s pre-Oscars soirée in style, wearing his first of two one-of-a-kind collars worth a whopping £120,000. He then wore his Academy Award bow tie (hand-crafted with 18kt yellow gold and satin, and bearing his name) to the main event.

Now when we met Uggie in the Stylist office, we thought he was the most dapper dog we'd ever met (just look at that cute bow-tie!) and it seems like the A-listers couldn’t get enough of his rather bling attire – with Katy Perry tweeting this picture:

Caroline Scheufele, Co-President and Artistic Director of Chopard (pictured below) , decided to create the collars because “I was completely charmed by Uggie’s role in The Artist. Knowing that Uggie is a rescue dog, it inspired me to create a unique piece to benefit an important cause”.

Like many Hollywood starlets, Uggie won’t get to keep his outfits after the event – they’ll be auctioned off and all proceeds of will be donated to The Amanda Foundation, a homeless animals charity.

Stylish, philanthropic and the star of an Oscar-winning film – is there anything this canine can’t do?
