“For me, a 'more is more' kind of a person, I don’t want merely to experience pleasure, I want to wallow in it – gloriously and gratefully – while it lasts,” Nigella Lawson told Stylist about her obsession with salted caramel. And wallow in it she did on the cover of her guest-edited food issue back in December 2011.
Nigella’s arresting Stylist cover, which pictures her face drizzled in salted caramel, has now been nominated for the prestigious PPA Cover of the Year award, one of the most coveted awards in the magazine publishing industry - and YOU can help us win it.
We really put our all into creating this cover, as Stylist’s photography director Tom Gormer explains: “Usually, celebrities want photoshoots to be as quick and as simple as possible. Nigella didn’t. Things that go through your mind on a shoot like this include: ‘What if I ruin her face? What if I ruin her hair and she has to have it all cut off and it’s my fault? Is there a substitute for caramel sauce that looks just like it and has the same texture (there isn’t)?’ IT IS NOT EASY. But she did it.”
“You could say it was down to amazing hair and make-up and styling and photography and art direction etc, but to be honest, if Nigella hadn’t have stood with her hands clasped to her head and let two people pour caramel sauce all over her hair and face for 13 minutes (I counted), it wouldn’t have happened, so it is all down to her.”
