Madonna and the moneymakers

She may not have been paid for her stunning Superbowl performance earlier this month, but Madonna has still reached the top spot on the music industry's male-dominated high earners chart.

The 54-year-old's gruelling MDNA world tour has netted her $34.6m (£26.1m), according to Billboard's annual chart, shooting her earnings above those of Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen, Pink Floyd founder Roger Waters and even teen Swag King Justin Bieber.

Madonna's not the only woman giving her bank manager sweaty palms...

more self-made women piling up the paper:

In Business

Chinese property developer Wu Yajun is worth £2.8 billion - and that's after a recent stinging £2 billion divorce settlement. The 49-year-old co-founded Beijing-based Longfor Properties in 1994 and the business currently pulls in around £350 million a year.

Her marriage split means she's no longer China's richest woman - that title now belongs to an heiress - but something tells us she's probably not too fussed.

In Fashion

Meet Rosalia Mera - Spain's answer to Philip Green. The 69-year-old left school at 11 to work as a seamstress and after designing clothes at home, went on to co-found Inditex, parent-company of Zara.

She's worth about £3 billion and is a prolific philanthropist.

In Entertainment

Yes she's a businesswoman too, but Oprah Winfrey has made her name from entertaining. While she's no longer the Daytime TV Queen after putting her 25-year-old chat show to bed in 2011, the 59-year-old American is still good for around £1.8 billion.

Post-Oprah she's keeping busy with her Harpo production company, her Oprah Winfrey Network, the book club, charity work...

In Modelling

Despite the omnipresence of Cara Delevingne and her awesome eyebrows and Kate Moss, who has been looking good since before most of today's supermodels were born, Gisele is still catwalks ahead on the salary scale. The 32-year-old Brazilian is worth around £100 million, earning £30 million, give or take, last year alone.

In Sports

With an estimated net worth of £60 million, world no. 3 Maria Sharapova is living proof that tennis is a rich woman's game. The 25-year-old (yes, 25) Russian banked around £17 million last year alone, supplementing her tennis salary with high-profile modelling jobs - the one for Nike being the most profitable in women's tennis.

If reading this has inspired a career boost head to the Stylist Network - or if it left you in the mood to spend - this week's Style List is a good place to start.
