The winner's review: "I've been wanted to eat at Nopi since it opened earlier this year as I love the Ottolenghi delis, so was very excited to win the prize. My guest and I enjoyed a delicious sharing menu of three main dishes and a dessert dish each, all of which were tasty - we especially loved the pecan and coffee financiers from the sweet menu. The overall experience was wonderful - the food was great, as was the service, and the relaxed atmosphere made for a lovely Monday evening out. What more could you want!" - Sarah Garton

The winner's review: "The Tower restaurant is situated on the roof of the National Museum of Scotland and enjoys some fantastic panoramic views of Edinburgh. When we arrived we enjoyed a couple of drinks on the sun-drenched balcony with the castle just above us before being invited inside to start our meal. We ordered from the set menu, each picking the Tower Waldorf Salad, Breaded Veal and Vanilla Brulee, each of which came nicely presented. The veal was full of flavour and dessert was delicious, although we found the set menu a little uninspiring. The service was fantastic - the waiting staff were very attentive - and the restaurant had a good atmosphere." - Jamie Coull

The winner's review: "As a couple of newbies to the idea of fusion, neither myself nor my guest knew quite what to expect from Providores. Five courses (and five glasses of wine) later, our discarded belts were a sign we'd more or less caught on. A parade of beautifully presented dishes included twists on traditional Asian (a tangy tamarind soba/laksa) and some more subtle touches to European cuisine (an oh-so-trendy ginger and rosemary foam sprinkled on lamb and puy lentils). Service improved as the busy dining room grew quieter, with some well-chosen wines accompanying each course, right up to a delicious dessert wine to match a painfully good banana and coconut fritter." - Hannah Stewart

The winner's review: When you arrive at McQueen, you could be forgiven for thinking you were gaining access to a VIP bar as your name is checked against a list and you're whisked through the crowded bar. Once inside it's easy to see why the trendsetters flock here in their droves. With exposed brickwork, chesterfield sofas and leather wrapped tables the impressive decor feels like the perfect homage to Steve McQueen.
The food, is delicious and beautifully presented. The Gnocci was wonderfully rich and the 10oz US steak was a genuine slab of all-American beef. The homemade pecan pie with white chocolate ice cream was certainly the highlight of the meal. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable night" - Natasha Markley

The winner's review: "Passing the glazed and encased fountain sculpture at the front of the Grade II Listed Seaham Hall, we entered the reception and were welcomed by the friendly staff who directed us to the main lounge for an aperitif and canapés including verdant olives, a ballotine of pork on a crouton and roasted honeyed nuts while our table was readied. An immaculately presented gentleman then presented us with our gourmet tasting menu, which the team happily made adjustments to in order to cater to my pregnant guest. We then moved into the White Room itself at a window table with sea views beyond the immaculate garden. We then tucked into our seven course meal, with highlights including a seafood risotto starter, Northumberland lamb rump and neck - a wonderfully pink fillet was presented on a bed of verdant mash – and ‘cheese from the chariot’, a 30 plus selection of sheep’s, goat’s and cow’s cheese from around the globe. Overall, the food and service was impeccable and the ambience was lovely. You can want for no more." - Steph Biskupek

The winner's review: "A sparkling night at Terre à Terre began with a warm welcome from the vivacious manager, who couldn't have made us feel more at ease. We were led through a bright and comfortable restaurant and given what can only be described as an inspirational menu; vegetarian food illuminated with extraordinary imagination. The food certainly lived up to it's colourful depictions: amalgamations of spectacular flavours. Highlights included the divine starter "Peas Please", an incredible pea mousse salad. The mains continued this trend - a rosti packed full of contrasting flavours based on a combination of fried potato, chickpea and onions. This was delicious and the side of chunky chips was amazing! Service was excellent, staff were extremely personable and professional. All in all a wonderful evening. Highly recommended." - Fiona Hendry

The winner's review: "From the moment we discreetly entered Umu we were in a haven of Japanese luxury and sophistication. We quickly decided on the traditional Kaiseki taster menu and watched as the sushi and sashimi was prepared before us. Course after course arrived – eight in total – expertly described and beautifully presented. The highlight was the seared wild salmon and scallop: served with a deliciously sticky ginger sauce, the contrast of flavours was exquisite. A palate cleansing tomato mousse and shiso sorbet rounded off a perfect evening. As we returned to news of further riots across London, we wished every night could be spent with the obliging team at Umu." - Ruth Greenwood

The winner's review: “Van Zeller is Harrogate centre's premier fine dining restaurant and our table was next to three shelves of numerous awards won by the restaurant and its chef, Tom van Zeller, which support this.
Our prize was the five-course tasting menu and it was absolutely delicious, from the start of the Amuse Bouche, to the seared foie gras, gorgeous scallops, perfectly pink duck breast, finished by artisan cheeses and dark chocolate crème brulee. The menu was exciting and innovative and the flavours all worked together perfectly. We really enjoyed the evening which was enhanced by the front of house manager who explained every course with knowledge and passion.” - Liz Welburn

The winner's review: "If I was to describe Pollen Street Social by a tune it wouldn’t be Mr Bombastic or on the flip the rigid elegance of Clair de Lune. It would probably ease in like the first time you heard the warm tones of Aloe Blacc I need dollar, it’s cool, it has something to say and you want to share it with your friends. The restaurant has a social feel, and strikes a balance between comfortable surroundings and divine well-constructed dishes and delectable wines. Overall the whole experience was fantastic and I will definitely be returning. A special mention must go to the sommelier whose choices of wines were outstanding." - Lily Currie

The winner's review: "The main front of house is an incredibly efficient and friendly Italian lady with excellent knowledge of the provenance of the ingredients. The sommelier was charming, and refreshingly unstuffy.
Overall, food is traditional but with adventurous touches. A starter of sweetbreads with fennel and shallot puree was well cooked, if a little salty. For mains, the pigeon was an adventurous choice but absolutely delicious and tasted very lean. The beef was perhaps less exciting, but well cooked. The portions were generous. The most refreshing dessert was an apple tart with cucumber ice cream and elderflower foam.
Nice touches abounded, from a plentiful bread basket and gorgeous rosemary breadsticks (which they actually left on the table), to the top quality olive oil and salami they served it with. With coffees, we got fresh cherries and a large bowl of chocolates, before they brought the desserts, a large selection of seven spoonfuls of sorbet in various flavours - basil, cherry, chocolate, caramel, all perfect. All in all, a lovely evening!" - Olga Koepping

The winner's review: "The moment you are welcomed through the door you realise why there is so much hype surrounding Michael Caines at ABode Manchester. The brilliant staff are so accommodating and helpful, without being imposing; they have somehow managed to keep their own wonderfully natural character, and have not fallen victims of the robotic sterility that many restaurants' workers do.
And then there’s the stunning food. My guest and I enjoyed two courses from the set menu – featuring some unusual yet beautifully complementary taste pairings - and a bottle of wine chosen by their charming sommelier. My personal favourite of the evening (an incredibly tough choice) was the pan-fried salted hake dish paired with a chorizo and red pepper purée that had the most exciting, exquisite taste. The asparagus, ham and chive amuse bouche is also worth a quick mention - my bouche was most definitely amused all evening. Once both courses were done, we were so keen for our evening to continue that we decided to stay for coffee and petit fours.
A huge thank you to Stylist for this fantastic experience. I cannot do justice to the evening in writing, so if you get the chance, go - you will not regret a moment. I will definitely be returning very soon." - Rachel Green

The winner's review: "Located in the centre of the hotel, Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles is hidden away with its own unique style and dark, luxurious atmosphere. My guest and I enjoyed the menu degustation, eight small courses chosen to showcase the chef's signature dishes. Each course is completely unique. Scottish produce is influenced by French style, with some of the dishes, such as the king scallops, displaying Asian flavours through the chef's own take on the prawn cracker. I was particularly excited to sample the smoked lobster, one of the chef's most famous dishes, and it exceeded my expectations. The subtle smoky flavour was perfectly balanced with the sweet lobster meat.
The service was excellent, from the friendly and welcoming head waiter to the skilled sommelier, whose knowledge of the wines chosen to complement each of our courses truly enhanced the meal. But what really stood out for me was the attention to detail - especially the homemade granny smith apple marshmallows to end our meal!" - Linsey Ann Stevenson

My guest and I were treated to the eight course tasting menu, with each course beautifully complimented by a wine specially chosen by the sommelier. It was these wine and food pairings that really stood out - they were fantastic. The staff were attentive but not intrusive and all courses were delicious, the highlights being the creamy, rich Summer Truffle Risotto and the succulent Crispy and Soft Piglet. Quality of the food was delicious, I enjoyed an array of flavours and spices throughout the evening and particularly enjoyed my starter of salmon marinated in tomato and red pepper puree. The winner's review: "The restaurant - located beneath Spinningfields - looked fairly unassuming from the street; a miniature glass pyramid reminiscent to Paris’ Louvre marked our entrance. Once inside the stylish interior had us thoroughly captivated, with skeletal branches lining the dining room resembling the Australian outback.
i-Pad wine menus were a technophile’s dream and the laid back but impeccable service made our night one to remember. The food was a harmonious blend of Southeast Asian, Indonesian and modern European.
Starting the evening with a Sushi and Sashimi mixed plate to share, the flavours were fresh and well-defined. Our main courses took a more European direction which we really enjoyed and we followed it up with Passionfruit marshmallow, roast pineapple parcels with pineapple sorbet and Chocolate pavé, sour cherry jelly and miso ice-cream ending our night on a high. A great evening." - Sam Catterall

"Located on a stylish street of Georgian houses, the Living Room boasts an excellent location. The bar is lively and the restaurant smart and modern inside, if a little "well used" in places. Staff were warm, friendly and helpful - although I was brought the wrong starter by mistake, this was quickly rectified and they were concerned and apologetic. Although the menu was varied (with main courses are affordably priced between £10 - £20) a lot of the more delicious-sounding options were unavailable. Not to be deterred, we started with scallops with chorizo and chilli prawns – both very tasty. Then we opted for rib eye steak (cooked as requested) and a rack of lamb - again good, but not spectacular. Sadly part of our dessert was disappointing (our Eton Mess had hardly any meringue), but the sticky toffee pudding was warm, rich and delicious. Overall we had a lovely evening at the Living Room –the experience was more about the ambience than fine dining, but it’s a good choice for a nice meal in a great atmosphere." - Joan Clemo

Entering the restaurant you are seduced by a relaxed and warm atmosphere which makes you forget all about the noisy traffic just feet above. Everything about the evening was exquisite, from the chef Jeff Bland’s amuse-bouches that accompanied the menu to his petits fours with the coffee. How can it not be special when you get a pre-dessert dessert? A charming and very knowledgeable sommelier chose complementary wines for each of our dishes - with the chilled port was a particular highlight of the evening. The winner's review: "Walking into the Gallery at Sketch is almost a theatrical experience - you feel you are entering another world, far from the hustle and bustle of busy London life. The decor and ambiance of the room were fantastic, and our eyes never stopped roving around, from the video reel that rotated around the top of the room to the small touches of detail in the restaurant such as the hand-painted chairs. Even a visit to the egg toilets was an experience in itself!
And then on to the food, which, of course, should be the central talking point of a visit to a restaurant. You cannot help the feeling, given your surroundings, that an evening at Sketch is more about the experience than the dining, but the food at the Gallery did not disappoint: the menu is full of tempting dishes, packed with seasonal, fresh ingredients. A word of warning for the conservative eater - the combinations are unusual and you should expect to be surprised, albeit pleasantly so! We tried a variety of dishes, from lobster bisque to sea bass carpaccio to beef tartare, all well prepared and tasty. The desserts, however, were the crowning glory - a melt-in-your mouth, out of the ordinary, chocolate gateaux, and a wonderfully refreshing red fruit tartlet. All of this was delivered by attentive, but non-obtrusive staff (and having had a problem with one of the staff members on our first visit - long story! - this was appreciated). The Gallery at Sketch is probably not a restaurant to go back to time and time again, but certainly should be experienced at least once; it is truly original." - Stephanie Lee

The winner's review: "Elude by name...and by nature. This restaurant is truly hidden in the quiet area of Liverpool's docklands. Decor is traditionally romantic, with deep red furnishings throughout, oxblood leather chesterfields, dark wood furniture, glass chandeliers and lots of candles.
The a la carte menu offers four dishes per course with the wine menu having more choice. We started with Pan Fried Chicken with apples and garlic basil cream and Traditional Fishcake which were both flavoursome and quite generous in size. Next came the main course of Aged Rib Eye Steak and the day's special of Sea Bass, both were well seasoned and cooked but the sea bass would have benefited from a crispier skin. We finished with a Crème Brulee and another of the chef's specials (so special it hadn't been christened yet) of Chocolate and Ginger Mousse. In terms of flavours they were both good but unfortunately after tapping through the excellent crunchy topping the brulee hadn't set properly. The service was excellent; thank you Cormac." - Jacqueline McAssey

The winner’s review:
On arriving at Asha’s Restaurant in Birmingham, we were immediately welcomed and conducted to an alcove with two upholstered benches separated by a wide table. Spotlights highlighted the table. Indian music played discreetly in a relaxed setting. Our server introduced himself and we ordered wafer thin popadoms and assorted dips. We liked the papaya relish. We shared a light and subtly flavoured chicken kebab marinated in cashew paste, yoghurt, cheese and cream served with a mint yoghurt sauce as a starter. For the main course, I chose lamb shank cooked in onion gravy with saffron and roasted garlic, while my husband had a medium heat lobster curry (which could feed two) served in the shell. The lobster flavour was subsumed in the heat of the spices which brought beads of moisture to his brow. Both curries were rich with a complex of flavours balanced by the sweetness of naan bread stuffed with almonds, raisins, coconut, cherries and pistachios. We finished the meal by sharing a platter of four Indian desserts which were lightly sweet – just right! - Linda & Nigel Schibild

As I settled in to the warm yet neutral dining room and enjoyed a pre-dinner Spritz (the restaurant's signature cocktail), I knew I was in for a treat. From the extensive Italian menu I ordered a pizzette with asparagus, taleggio and speck, accompanied by a Jersey potato salad and a side plate of grilled thin-cut sirloin, all of which was delicious. To finish I indulged with a Nutella pizzetta, essentially a pizza topped with chocolate and nuts - the perfect treat for chocolate lovers! The delightful maitre d' showed us to our table where we marvelled at the stylish décor and ornate ceiling. The staff were happy to answer menu questions and delighted to recommend the best wine to complement the classic British dishes on offer. A pretty starter of potted crab was delish and the razor clams a treat. For mains we had lively Lemon Sole with shrimp and perfectly rare Cumbrian lamb. But the star turn was dessert - a vintage inspired Jaffa cake and dreamy Mrs Beeton’s Snow Cake with toffee and peanuts. As we departed to the flash of camera bulbs (alas not for us, but the impending MOBO Awards after party) it sprang to mind that this might just be the perfect start to a mini break in Paris." - Danielle Taylor

Decorated in Missoini's iconic bold and colourful style, the ambience makes for the perfect setting in which to enjoy the restaurant's delicious cuisine, freshly prepared by charming chef Mattia Camorani.
