Hollywood's finest gather on the red carpet for the 2013 Golden Globes. We reported on all the action as it happened, from the award-winners to the red carpet arrivals - but which fashion and beauty trends emerged from the first major event of awards season? From the classic fishtail hem and red hues to cocktail earrings and big hair, here are nine fashion and beauty trends from the Golden Globes red carpet.
1. The red dress
Pale, ethereal pastel shades and nudes are an awards season staple - and dare we say it, a tad predictable? So thank you to Claire Danes in plunging Versace, Marion Cotillard in an asymmetric-hemmed Raf Simons for Dior gown and Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture who spiced things up by matching their frocks to the red carpet.
Nicole Kidman, usually demure in a classic, embellished number, surprised us by wearing this studded Alexander McQueen gown, complete with a sheer lace panel in the middle on the Globes' red carpet. Emily Blunt (in Michael Kors), and Kristen Wiig also opted for dresses with a little peekaboo action.
3. Something blue
Jessica Chastain's Calvin Klein dress divided opinion on twitter last night - some of you loved the sea foam shade and retro styling - others thought it fitted badly. We loved the colour with her red hair - and were similarly drawn to the other blue dresses on the red carpet. Nicole Richie's long-sleeved Naeem Khan number was sheer elegance, and Lucy Liu probably had the most eye-catching look of the night with this printed Caroline Herrera number. Interestingly, blue was one of the most worn colours (aside from nudes, naturally) at last year's Globes.
4. Big earrings
Awards season always promises a certain amount of bling, and the stars certainly brought it - choosing to adorn their ears with oversized jewels, with drop and chandelier earrings a huge trend.
5. Big Hair
Bigger was clearly better at this year's Globes, with voluminous hair the most stand-out beauty trend of the night (aside from those vintage, curled hair-styles we've seen for a few years now). Adele led the way with her huge beehive (which towered over the E! red carpet TV host Ryan Seacrest), but Claire Danes, Thandie Newton and Jessica Chastain also injected some va va voom into their 'do.
6. The 'Angelina' side split
Dresses with side splits will always be synonymous with Angelina Jolie - after her Oscar pose last year became an internet sensation. She may or may not be pleased to see that her posing style is still very much alive - with Lea Michele, Eva Longoria and Smash star Katharine McPhee all opting for the revealing style.
7. The Fishtail
The fishtail is a flattering, but hard-to-walk-in awards season staple - and this year the stars loved theirs in sugary pastel shades. Amy Adams wins the award for the most impressive fishtail - her balletic Marchesa gown had a soft chiffon plume that was far bigger than anyone else's.
8. Red, red wine
Deep reds, plummy and brown shades were seen on Lena Dunham, Naomi Watts and Taylor Swift. Taylor's Donna Karan Atelier gown was our favourite - mainly because she's finally broken away from wearing jewel-encrusted, pastel, or princess-like gowns on the red carpet.
From Sienna Miller's floral Erdem dress with 3D blooms, to Kerry Washington's glittering Miu Miu gown (the Django Unchained star is our current red carpet obsession - she always dressed in an interesting look), dresses with any kind of embellishment were another big red carpet trend.
