All that glitters
As befitting the glitziest night of the year, high-shine fabrics, sequins and glam embellishments were by far the biggest fashion trend on the Oscars red carpet. Best Actress winner Meryl Streep led the way in gold Lanvin followed closely by Amy Adams in a silver gown by Vivienne Westwood. Elsewhere Rose Byrne, Anna Faris, Jane Seymour and Bridesmaids star Ellie Kemper brought sexy back in slinky sequins, and not to be outdone, Milla Jovovich, Karolina Kurkova and J-Lo took a star turn in glimmering beadwork.
Getting waisted
The peplum trend gathers apace as Michelle Williams, Tina Fey and Mia Wasikowska all took to the red carpet in the look, originated on the catwalks of wonder labels like Jason Wu and Thakoon. The waist seemed to be the erogenous zone du jour at this year’s Oscars, as Katie Holmes, Victoria Beckham, Olivia Wilde, Petra Nemcova and January Jones were among the celebs to make a feature of their pilates-toned waists with leather belts wide and skinny.
The new black
At first glance you could be forgiven for thinking Angelina Jolie decided to play it safe with her black Versace gown. But it turns out the LBD really is a wardrobe must-have (even if it simply has to come from Christian Dior, Giambattista Valli or Miu Miu) as Elizabeth Olsen, Zoe Saldana, Olivia Wilde, Emma Stone and Mia Wasikowska all showed off just how fabulous that stylish fall-back dress can be.
