We were recently joined for a lunchtime masterclass with Cynthia Chua, entrepreneur and founder of multiple beauty enterprises including Ministry Of Waxing and Browhaus threading salons.
Cynthia studied for a degree in economics and statistics from the National University of Singapore and trained in the banking and marketing industry before launching her first beauty venture, Spa Esprit, in 1996.
The lifestyle outlet aimed to redefine the traditional concept of a "zen" day spa, with creative treatments and a vintage-inspired, eclectic interior.
By 2002, Cynthia felt the time was right to launch her second venture, waxing salon Strip, which again reinvented the local waxing industry by making the whole process of waxing chic and desirable.
Two years later she created facial hair salon Browhaus. Browhaus reinterpreted age-old hair depilation treatments like threading and made them modern and accessible. It also used innovative techniques like the Brow Resurrection treatment, which created bold eye brows using the latest semi-permanent technology.
In 2009, Cynthia went international by opening Ministry Of Waxing and Browhaus in London and Strip and Browhaus in Shanghai, New York, Hong Kong and Bangkok.
Alongside these beauty ventures, Cynthia has launched nine other brands including a gourmet hotdog business (O My Dog), an artisan bakery and a Tippling Club, combining delicious food with otherworldly drinks.
This web chat has now finished but you can read all the questions posed to Cynthia and her replies in the transcript below
