We were recently joined for a lunchtime masterclass with Lianne Ludlow, founder of leading eco fashion style site, Fashion-conscience.com.
Fashion-conscience.com was launched in November 2007 while Lianne was working as a full-time journalist on features, fashion, and celebrity content.
Lianne came up with the idea to set up the business while on holiday in southern India in 2007, reading articles on climate change and environmental concerns and feeling a rise in demand in for more ethical clothing with a fashion focus.
The remit of Fashion-conscience.com has always been to source brands, labels and pieces that were stylish first, and with the ethical merits a bonus. It is also the brand's mission to help launch many young eco labels in the UK such as Doucette Duvall, Camilla Norrback, Ashley Watson and more.
The site began with a collection of around ten labels, which has since grown to approximately 50, and also seen the introduction of a small collection of beauty and men's gifts in 2009.
Most recently Fashion-conscience launched two new eco labels – FAIR+true and reLUXE, to great plaudit and recognition from both press and consumers alike. Working with fair trade suppliers in Kenya, Malawi and Nepal these new labels mix the best from both worlds with dynamic print and modern shapes to create standout items that are directional and desirable.
