Web chat: Alex Crawford

We were recently joined for a lunchtime masterclass with Alex Crawford, Sky News' award-winning special correspondent.

Based in South Africa, Alex reports on big stories across the world - including the Arab Spring uprisings last year and the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008.

Alex became a household name in August after becoming the first reporter to broadcast live from Green Square as rebel forces took over Tripoli. She arrived in the Libyan capital on the back of a truck in a rebel convoy and broadcast live reports from a camera plugged into a cigarette lighter charger.

During her career as a journalist, Alex has been arrested, interrogated and faced live bullets, tear-gassing and mortar shells.

In October 2011, she was awarded the James Cameron Memorial Award in recognition of her "brave, vivid conflict reporting of the highest order" in Libya. She was awarded an OBE for services to broadcast journalism in December. She is married with four children.

This web chat is now closed but you can read all the comments posed to Alex and her replies in the comments section below
