You can now eat breakfast with giraffes in this safari hotel

Since reading The Tiger Who Came To Tea, we’ve always harboured secret fantasies of dining with our own exotic creature.

So you can imagine our delight when we heard about Giraffe Manor, a boutique hotel in Kenya whose resident giraffes will often amble over to the main building to join guests at meal times.

“The most fascinating thing about Giraffe Manor is its herd of resident Rothschild giraffe who may visit morning and evening,” the hotel’s website insightfully reads.

It adds that the friendly animals will “sometimes poke their long necks into the windows in the hope of a treat,” a phenomenon that has been snapped by a number of (understandably) thrilled hotel visitors and shared on Instagram (below).

The one-of-a-kind hotel, situated in the Langata suburb of Nairobi, is nestled in 140 acres of forestland.

It has remained one of Nairobi’s most iconic buildings since being built in the 1930s, when Europeans first started travelling to East Africa to go on safaris.

The tiny hotel has only 10 bedrooms, and the website states that each has a “distinct personality, elegant furnishings and art deco features”.

The giraffes have also been known to visit guests in their bedrooms, where staff will often leave treats for the inquisitive creatures.

As well as dining with giraffes, guests at Giraffe Manor can relax at the on-site spa, take a guided walk in the sanctuary or feed baby elephants at the nearby David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

Giraffe Manor is owned by hotel group The Safari Collection, which runs four boutique hotels and lodges across Kenya.

We know which one we’ll be visiting first...
