The Cape Winelands is a South African district municipality (which means it’s huge) packed with beautiful, mouth-watering, grape-busting variations of award-winning wine. Jump on the Franschhoek Wine Tram for a hop-on hop-off tour of some of the country’s oldest and most distinguished wine estates. You’ll not only sample mouth-watering wines, but eat fantastic local food and meet the people responsible for some of the wines you love to drink back home (winelands.co.za).

The Test Kitchen can claim responsibility for being one of the main reasons foodies are getting so excited about South Africa. Consistently voted in the top 100 world’s best restaurants, this year it reached the dizzy heights of number 22. Not bad going for young British-born chef Luke Dale-Roberts, who is the closest thing Cape Town has to a rock star chef. Expect locally sourced food cooked in adventurous ways, presented in a brilliantly theatrical manner (thetestkitchen.co.za).

In The Neighbourgoods Market in Johannesburg, you’ll find countless food and drink traders selling farm fresh foods and all kinds of speciality goods. Housed in an eye-catching modernist building, it’s a bustling creative hub where people meet and eat. In Cape Town, The Bo-Kaap cooking tour is a must-do for spice fans. Get to know the close-knit, multicultural community while learning how to cook traditional Malay cuisine in a resident’s house. You’ll learn how to cook some traditional dishes before sitting down to enjoy a delicious meal with incredibly gracious hosts (bokaapcookingtour.co.za).
