Fright night: you can rent an Airbnb in a shark tank

If you’re a fan of rollercoasters, scary movies and generally giving yourself the heebie jeebies, then this is the Airbnb of your dreams.

If you’re scared of the sea and flesh-eating fish, look away now.

Airbnb’s latest offering? A night in a shark tank.

The ‘accommodation’ is a 360 degree underwater glass pod, submerged in a tank containing 35 sharks and 3 million litres of water (around 800,000 gallons).

Built by Etienne Clamagirand of Architeuthis, the room was tested in the Mediterranean sea for durability.

The pod is advertised on the travel site as having one bedroom, one bathroom, as well as shampoo and breakfast.

Unsurprisingly, it does have a set of unique rules, including:

“No selfies after dark, no sleepwalking or night swimming,” as well as “keep your heads and feet in the bedroom at all times.”

The bizarre bedroom is located in the Aquarium of Paris, which has opened a competition in which lucky (depending on how you see it) winners could have the opportunity to be flown over to Paris on 11-13 April and spend the night in shark infested waters.

The winners will also be given an aquarium tour by free diver and underwater photographer, Fred Buyle.

“During the evening,” Airbnb partnership director Anne-Sophie Frenove tells the International Business Times, "the winners will have a private tour of the aquarium, our host Frederic Buyle will spend time with them as well as the biologist. The idea is to explain the life of sharks, how they live, and explain their different behaviours.

“They'll be able to feed the baby sharks, and after they'll have dinner. Finally, they'll be able to go into the structure, which is right there, and be able to look at the thirty-five sharks of six different species,” she adds.

The room – which sleeps two in a circular bed – is only available for the 11, 12, 13 April, after which it will be converted into an observatory for marine biologists.

If you want to be in with a chance of spending a night in troubled waters, you will need an Airbnb account and to tell the organisers a little about yourself and why you think you’re the perfect candidate.

Safety conditions have been put in place, including weight limitations, age and medical fitness: attendees must be over 18, weigh less than 190kg combined and be able to climb easily in and out of the bedroom.

If you are keen on staying, perhaps avoid watching Jaws for a while…

Interested? You can apply through AirBbnb here before midnight CET on 3 April.
