There's a new Gin School and we're desperate to enrol

gin school.jpg

From its health benefits to its ability to show us who we really are, mother’s ruin has a very special place in our hearts. But, while we consider ourselves to be experts in the art of the G&T, we’re the first to admit that we still have a lot to learn about our favourite drink.

Enter ‘gin school’.

It's time to learn all there is to know about gin

While there are several tours, masterclasses and create-your-own gin experiences around the UK (check out our gin events round-up here), Listoke Distillery has been making headlines as Ireland’s first ever school dedicated to juniper.

Situated in the grounds of Listoke House near Drogheda, the Listoke Gin School – which is, of course, for over-18s only – opens every Saturday and teaches attendees all about the ins and outs of gin-making.

Students begin their day by tucking into a few light refreshments, before heading on a tour of the pretty countryside distillery. They’re then treated to three different gin profiles – and are given a crash course in choosing flavours and botanicals.

Once they’ve got those skills well and truly nailed, the students are then offered the chance to design their very own gin.

As in, yes, a completely customised and utterly personal boozy treat. And it’s not just the stuff of fantasy either; students are challenged to make their dreams a reality and, under the watchful eye of the master distillers, craft the drink from scratch.

Their unique gin is then bottled up and labelled, ready to take home to show mum/pin on the fridge/guzzle on the sofa during a Netflix binge session.

Of course, it goes without saying that students don’t go hungry or thirsty during the day; there’s plenty of G&Ts and snacks on hand to keep everyone’s strength up.

A class costs 95 euros (approximately £81) per person – but, as you can imagine, tickets are already selling out fast. If they’re already gone (or you don’t fancy shelling out for a flight to Ireland), check out some of the other fine gin experiences in the UK right here.
