Last time we visited Bangkok we stayed in a no-frills hostel on the Khaosan Road - but you don't have to slum it in order to make the most of the Thai capital. In fact, if you have the cash (and we're talking a lot of cash) it might be worth checking into the St. Regis Bangkok, which has just opened a luxury penthouse suite.
This lavish two-storey abode can be found on the hotel's 44th floor, with sweeping views of the city from its floor-to-ceiling windows. It's a panorama best enjoyed from the comfort of the outdoor private infinity pool, with refreshment from the nearby wine room crammed with old and new world vintages.
In a unique twist, the suite is decorated throughout with memorabilia from The King And I, the famed Broadway musical set in Bangkok; look out for costumes worn by Yul Brynner in the 1956 film adaptation. Should you get bored of lounging in the pool, there's a private home theatre with state-of-the-art equipment and a dining room for 16 (call your friends) overlooking Bangkok’s buzzing Sukhumvit district. There's also a 24-butler to help out, a private gym and a spa area with two treatment beds, so you can take advantage of hotel's Elemis Spa from the comfort of your room. Sorted.
