Reese Witherspoon set to open a boutique hotel in Nashville

It's the home of country music, snakeskin boots and high-octane glamour and kitsch.

Now Nashville, Tennessee is set to add another string to its bow, with news that Reese Witherspoon is thinking of opening a boutique hotel there.

According to reports in Us Weekly (via Vanity Fair), the 38-year-old Oscar winner has been scoping out properties in the legendary neon town, with her property agent husband Jim Toth.

"They’ve gone down a few times to look at properties," a source tells the magazine. "They’ve met with an architect and decorator, but they haven’t officially signed everything yet."

While Reese has yet to confirm the news, she did upload this suggestive post to her Instagram feed this week:

The Hollywood duo clearly have a passion for the area; they already own a $2 million (£134 million) home near Nashville, and their two-year-old son is called Tennessee.

So buying and setting up a hotel might be the next natural step, especially with Jim's property expertise backing them up. And of course Reese, who recently missed out on an Oscar for her performance in biographical drama Wild, is always game for a challenge.

It would be a savvy investment in terms of the travel market too.

Nashville has soared in popularity in recent years, thanks in part to the success of the Nashville TV series starring Hayden Panettiere.

The mass appeal of Taylor Swift and of course, the inimitable Dolly Parton, have also had their part to play in the growth of America’s self-proclaimed "Music City".

There city is home to a burgeoning foodie scene and a growing community of famous artists, including Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban,  Jack White of the White Stripes and cult film director Harmony Korine (of Kids fame).

Then there's the pull of its kitsch, glitzy "Nashvegas" appeal.

According to singer Adele, "Nashville makes you feel like a four-year-old in a candy shop who's discovering sweets again."

Reese isn't the only star to set her sights on a hotel launch.

Clint Eastwood owns the Mission Ranch Hotel in Carmel, California, fashion designer Donatella Versace is the brains behind the Palazzo Versace in Queensland, Australia and singer Gloria Estefan's property portfolio includes the Costa d'Este Beach Resort in Florida.

In other Reese news, the actress is lined up to take on the role of an elite female American soldier who died in an explosion in Afghanistan.

First Lieutenant Ashley White was one of the first US women to fight in the war and was killed in the Kandahar province in 2010. She was posthumously awarded a number of honours, including the Purple Heart, for her bravery.

Reese is expected to take the lead role in an upcoming film adaptation of the book Ashley’s War: The Untold Story of a Team of Women Soldiers on the Special Ops Battlefield, by Gayle Tzemach Lemmon.
