A new boutique airline is harking back to the golden age of travel with business class flights between Paris and New York for 1200 euros (£943).

La Compagnie, the world's first business class-only airline, has thrown open the usually exclusive world of luxury air-faring with its highly competitive offer.

The French "boutique" airline launched in July with the aim of bringing business class service "back to where it belongs".

Its slick Boeing 757-200 aircraft comes with just 74 fully extendable seats, the Daily Mail reported.

The menu is devised by Michelin starred chef Christophe Langrée

Each chair comes with an in-built massager and a Samsung tablet boasting a variety of films, music, books and magazines.

Forget stale bread and dry lasagne: the in-flight menu has been designed by Michelin starred chef Christophe Langrée, from The Hotel Matignon in Paris.

Taking inspiration from his native Brittany, Langrée has devised a seasonal menu sourced from top quality ingredients for the Paris to Newark, New Jersey flight.

La Compagnie's business class lounge

Guests on-board the La Compagnie flight are also presented with a toiletry kit from luxury Vinotherapy brand Caudalie.

On arrival at Paris and Newark airports, they will be provided with fast track, priority access and can take advantage of the airline's private lounges (above).

Passengers have access to all the usual amenities that come with first class lounges, including a free bar and snacks, computer workstations, TVs, international magazines and newspapers and a dedicated reception team.

Catch Me If You Can - a golden epoch of travel

The concept of La Compagnie is redolent of a glamorous, Catch Me If You Can style era of travel - but with a price tag that's more affordable than ever before.

The airline's current offer is return flights to Paris-Newark for 1200 euros (£943), compared to Air France business class flights on the same route for £3,000 (economy class flights start at £315 one-way) and United Airlines business class flights for £2,515.

Budget airline Norwegian made headlines in June this year when it announced the launch of a new London to New York route from just £150 one-way.

La Compagnie flights depart daily from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport at 5.50pm and arrive in Newark International Airport at 8.30pm. Return flights depart New York at 9.45pm and arrive in Paris at 11.15am.

Newark airport is around a half hour drive from New York City. Take a look around La Compagnie's business class craft, below.
